Let’s Dance

I decided awhile ago that I was going to try new things.  One of those things recently has been dance class.  It is a lot of fun and a great workout.  I spend most of my time laughing out loud at myself.  Any time Uros – the instructor – spins me around, I can’t help but laugh.  I’m enjoying it so much that I’m going to keep attending and while many of the students end up competing, I just want to keep doing it for fun.  I can now salsa, do the merengue, the bachata and some other stuff I can’t pronounce.  It’s the unexpected fun pastime that I never knew I needed.  Try something new, something different.  You never know what it could do for you.

And another thing while I’m on the topic of bodyrolling – I cannot believe that we have been dealing with this pandemic for almost three freaking years. My brain is still struggling to process it. As disturbing as it was/is … one of the most amazing things that came out of the unrelenting pandemic was DJ D-Nice’s Club Quarantine. This man single-handedly got EVERYBODY (including Oprah, Michelle Obama, Viola Davis, Halle Berry) DANCING to the best classic R&B and hip hop music (GROWN PEOPLE MUSIC!!!). I can’t explain what this meant to so many people. We loved the Verzuz battles too but D-Nice had us all dancing in our living rooms. Thousands of people all around the world grooving at the same time. It was groundbreaking because I don’t think something like that has ever been done before. Amazing. And this past spring D-Nice threw a two year anniversary party and it was everything. In the middle of all of the trauma and devastation, music and dancing together gave us the escape and camaraderie we needed. It gave us a small slice of normalcy in a dystopian and uncertain situation. Who knew what would emerge from this bleak moment but D-Nice – you WON the pandemic. Thank you for the good times. And while we are back to doing things in person (mostly), I’m going to miss dancing with everybody.
