The Power of the Red Lip

There is nothing that can amp up your look more than a red lip. I never get more compliments than when I wear a red lip.  It’s funny because while men notice it, it’s women who make the most comments. They say things like, “Wow! You are wearing red lipstick!” or “That’s so bold.” Or “I Iove your red lip!” I never thought it was a bold thing to do (I just love the way I look in a red lip) and I think it’s something that can be done every day. From time to time I crave a nice neutral –MAC’s “O” or Too Faced Lady Bold in Comeback Queen. But I just love the powerful allure of a beautiful red lip.

I notice that Taylor Swift wears a red lip on the regular and it looks great on her. I’m not sure which one she wears (I’m sure the die hard Swifties know but it is pretty and stays put). My absolute every day favorite is one that I received for free at the AfroTech conference last year. I loved it from the first wear. It is matte but not too drying and it is gorgeous without doing too much (I only wear mascara when I wear it). It is Estee Lauder’s PureColor Lipstick #683 in Speak Up (also called Persuasive). I love it so much that I bought several tubes when it was on sale on the Estee Lauder site during the holidays – best time to stock up on makeup BTW).

For a glamourous deep blue red for an evening out, I love Too Faced Lady Bold in LADY BOLD. You have to be ready to turn heads and break hearts in this red.  Please don’t be scared of red. You will become a different woman when you wear it. I promise.

My recommendations for a great red lip …

  1. MAC’s Ruby Woo (not really one of my favs, but people love it)
  2. Fenty Beauty Stunna Lip Paint in Uncensored
  3. Pat McGrath Labs’ Elson 013
  4. Urban Decay Vice Lipstick in Bad Blood
  5. The Lip Bar in Hot Mama
