The other night was what I call a perfect New York night. The stars aligned and fun was had by all. I have so many thoughts about New York but I’ll leave that for another post – my “I was only supposed to be here for two years,” story that I tell my friends all of the time. I liken the city to that man who is great when he is good, but awful when he is bad. It’s the man that you can’t quit because after he does you dirty, he shows up looking amazing, flowers in hand, takes you out on the town, you end up in his bed and you are back in love … again. But then … he does something awful and makes you mad … again. Oh New York, he can be so beautiful but nasty and temperamental at the same damn time. Gotham City indeed.
So, the other night was one of those Sex and the City/And Just Like That – or any of the other thousands of cliched New York-based shows/series/sitcoms/movies that show people thriving and living it up in the city. The truth of the matter is that it is very difficult to actually live the life depicted in movies in The City. It is hard and it is very true that if you can make it here in NYC, you can make it damn near anywhere. Honestly, it tests your mettle on a regular basis, but New York is a place where unexpected and amazing adventures just happen … on a regular basis. I am personally so proud to have lived and worked in this area for over ten years. I have had some of the most unbelievable experiences of my life here. I definitely have some New York stories (some good, some grimey) but I’ll save that for another post. I digress.
So, the other night was magical. I met with two of my favorite people on the planet. We embraced and laughed when we spotted one another on the street. It was the sincere joy of being back in good company. CW introduced me to the amazing Frederic Malle Parfums boutique ( ok … this gem is hidden in a vault-like location with a beautiful zen garden in the back … in the middle of tee city … only in New York). We had an amazing time there (it definitely gave me an even deeper appreciation for the beautiful things). We then walked through Greenwich Village and made our way to the Flatiron District to have dinner at Sona (Priyanka Chopra’s fantastic restaurant). The food and the cocktails were beyond delicious. And the music was an entire vibe (who was DJing?!?). We ordered way more than we could ever eat (OMG – the Gunpowder Gobhi!!!!).
We also popped into the gorgeous a,b,c Home Shop (we needed more time in here … too much expensive beauty in one place), and then we headed down to Soho. The company, the food, the music, the weather, the laughter, the fun, the beauty, the joy, the adventure … only in New York.
Speaking of New York, one day you’ll break up with him for good. He will have exhausted you, he won’t look as good, and his charm will have worn off. Maybe you’ll even have to block his number to keep from falling back under his spell. And while you’ll be relieved that you finally let him go, you know you will never find another man like him – and you’ll definitely miss him from time to time.
